
Special flight in support of earthquake victims in Haiti

Together with the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), Lufthansa Cargo is organising a special flight at 14.05 hours next Monday to assist in the emergency operations for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Lufthansa Cargo is providing an MD-11 freighter free of charge for the relief mission. The freighter will be flying around 75 tonnes of relief supplies to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. From there, the supplies will be trucked overland to Port-au-Prince. The German Foreign Ministry has entrusted the THW with responsibility for handling the logistics and coordination of the flight. The freighter and crew will come from Lufthansa Cargo. The shipment includes drinking water treatment plant, water analysis laboratories, generators, medicaments, food, tools and emergency accommodation equipment, which have been supplied by diverse German aid organisations. Aside from the THW, the Johanniter, the Order of Malta, Welthungerhilfe, Cap Anamur, Caritas, ADRA, Arche Nova, Don Bosco Youth Third World, Help e.V./action medeor, the Samaritans and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) are cooperating in the mission.
To provide you with further details of this first special flight from Frankfurt, we gladly invite you to a press conference with Lufthansa Cargo Chairman Carsten Spohr, the Minister of State at the Foreign Ministry, Dr. Werner Hoyer, and the Haitian Ambassador to Germany, Jean Robert Saget on Monday, 25 January, at 12.00 hours at the Sheraton Frankfurt Hotel & Towers, Room SkyLoft, Hugo-Eckener-Ring 15 at Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 1 You will subsequently have an opportunity to view the loading of the MD-11 freighter on the airport apron and conduct interviews with representatives of the participatory aid organisations, like THW President Albrecht Broemme, and the cockpit crew. Adequate parking space is available at Fraport Terminal 1. Free parking tickets will be issued. The way to the hotel is signposted. Please let us know if you will be attending on the reply fax. For security reasons, we will need to have your reply no later than 15.00 hours tomorrow.
We require your ID number (passport number) to allow you to access the airport apron.
Please bring your ID or passport with you to the press conference. No one will be admitted to the apron without them.

11:00 – 12:00 hours Arrival and registration
12:00 – 12:30 hours Press conference
12:30 – 13:00 hours Security check and drive to airport apron
13:00 – 14:00 hours Aircraft loading and interviews
14:00 – 14:15 hours MD-11 take-off
14:15 – 14:30 hours Return to press conference venue
Please note that you will be unable to leave the apron until after the MD-11 has taken
off. Return trips are not possible before 14.15 hours.
